I’ll be welcoming studio visits this weekend, beginning with a Preview Reception Fri 5-8pm, then Sat and Sun 11-5pm. There will be 50 studios open at @icb_art so I hope you can stop by and enjoy the scenery. We are all participating in the county-wide @marinopenstudios event that takes place annually. For an overview, you can check out all the artists’ work and pick up tour guides at @sausalito_center_for_the_arts

New! Happy Place 40x40. Looking forward to showing it in my studio @icb_art the first weekend in May for the @marinopenstudios event. Over 250 artists will be open throughout the county. Samples from each are being shown at @sausalito_center_for_the_arts beginning later this week, where visitors can pick up their tour guides. As an added bonus, @icb_art will be open for a Preview Reception Fri May 2 (5-8p) hosted by the 50 participating artists. So please come! I’m in Studio 300 on the Third Floor of ICB/ART located near the waterfront in Sausalito.

This short clip highlights both my process and what I’m trying to say with my work. In a nutshell, I feel the exchange of energy is real and is all around us. Change is inevitable. Fixed elements contrast with fluid ones—areas become both solid and ethereal, grounded and dissolving at the same time. This is true of all my subjects, whether it’s a figure or a rock, a landscape or pure abstraction.

Thanks to @hthvidphoto for capturing in this brief, one-minute video what I’m thinking while I’m painting in the studio. Although I have incredible views to the bay from my windows, I’m almost always facing away and focused on the wall where I work.

This is how I respond to my overly complicated work. Simple and subtle. I find it so much easier to do when using a smaller substrate. This is a 24x24 @bara_woodshaping panel with its own frame. Can’t wait to pop this in when dry. Meanwhile, trying to come up with an appropriately mysterious title.

New painting heading off to @julesplacegallery in Boston. I’m shooting here because this hallway @icb_art is the best place to capture natural light in the building. I have a lot of uncovered windows facing the water and the blues are especially hard to replicate. Here I’m outside @ankigelbartist studio (see her work hanging above), and opposite the studio of @terri_froelich_art who generously shared the pro tip. Come check it out for yourself Saturday Oct 19 11a-5p. The building is open while over 60 artists work. We love to share what we do.

Familiar territory. I’ve painted this view many times, maybe I’m stuck in a loop. Even so, I never know how I’m going to resolve the image. Every mark feels new, even though they all lead to a hillside, water, and the unknown underside closeup.
