I love how the frame works to focus the image. All the subtleties inside seem to pop more. Kind of like listening to music in a dark space, especially when driving at night.

This is a recently reworked 60x48 which pushed me back into strong color. (My last painting was super soft and minimalist—so it’s another example of the swinging pendulum!) It’s a very Marin scene, but maybe everyone can identify with hiking the hills.

New! Happy Place 40x40. Looking forward to showing it in my studio @icb_art the first weekend in May for the @marinopenstudios event. Over 250 artists will be open throughout the county. Samples from each are being shown at @sausalito_center_for_the_arts beginning later this week, where visitors can pick up their tour guides. As an added bonus, @icb_art will be open for a Preview Reception Fri May 2 (5-8p) hosted by the 50 participating artists. So please come! I’m in Studio 300 on the Third Floor of ICB/ART located near the waterfront in Sausalito.

This short clip highlights both my process and wha

This short clip highlights both my process and what I’m trying to say with my work. In a nutshell, I feel the exchange of energy is real and is all around us. Change is inevitable. Fixed elements contrast with fluid ones—areas become both solid and ethereal, grounded and dissolving at the same time. This is true of all my subjects, whether it’s a figure or a rock, a landscape or pure abstraction.

Thanks to @hthvidphoto for capturing in this brief, one-minute video what I’m thinking while I’m painting in the studio. Although I have incredible views to the bay from my windows, I’m almost always facing away and focused on the wall where I work.

Can’t wait to pop this in when dry. Meanwhile, trying to come up with an appropriately mysterious title.
